Research Position Exploring Possible Futures for Ubicomp Enabled Design (Feb 2016, Imperial College London)

Imperial College London are looking for a Design Researcher or Practitioner interested in exploring the future design!

This exciting new EPSRC funded project is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the new Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial, and the Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Nottingham, looking at how ubiquitous computing and interactive technologies can be employed to enhance product design and improve product sustainability.

The designer will work in collaboration with researchers at the Mixed Reality Lab, as well as strategic innovation teams from Unilever and GSK, to develop a vision of the potential future for ubiquitous computing equipped products across different product types and sectors. This will involve ethnographic research, technology prototyping, designing concepts for future products, and building scenarios of potential futures (much like IDEO’s ‘Made in the Future’ or Sony’s ‘Futurescapes’).

We envisage that this work will be just the start of a longer series of projects exploring design futures,  so please get in touch with Dr Leila Sheldrick if you have any questions or would like more information. Please also see the full job description for further details and information on how to apply. The deadline for applications is the 15th February 2016.
