The journal ‘Buildings’ (ISSN 2075-5309) is currently running a Special Issue entitled "Biomimetics in Sustainable Architectural and Urban Design". The Guest Editor for this issue is Dr Maibritt Pedersen Zari.
Papers are invited for this special issue of the Journal Buildings which particularly focuses on the use of biomimicry, or bio-inspired design in the design and creation of sustainable architecture or urban environments. Biomimetic design for sustainability, in this instance, can be defined as the emulation of living organisms themselves, the behaviour of various plants and animals, or of whole ecosystems. This may be in terms of forms, materials, construction methods, systems used in buildings or landscapes, or how built environments are designed to actually function.

The submission deadline is 31 October 2016. You may send your manuscript now or up until the deadline. Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. You can also send a short abstract or tentative title to the Editorial Office in advance (buildings@mdpi.com).
Buildings is fully open access. Open access (unlimited and free access by readers) increases publicity and promotes more frequent citations, as indicated by several studies. Open access is supported by the authors and their institutes. Article Processing Charges of CHF 300 (APC) apply to accepted papers. There is space for some ‘feature articles’ however which would be published free of charge.

By way of background, while “Buildings” is a relatively recently established journal, with its first volume appearing on-line in 2011, its publisher Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI) of Basel has been operating for nearly 20 years. The Editorial Board of “Buildings” includes many well-known and reputable academics and researchers in the field of architecture and building science.
